Henry M. Kelley, 7, Mahomet garage owner was killed in a head-on collision at 4:30 a.m. Saturday about three miles northwest of Mansfield on Route 150.  George W. Wolf, 25, Mansfield, the driver of the second car was treated for lacerations at Burnham City Hospital, Champaign and released.  Wolf is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Willard Wolf who live on a farm about one and one half miles southwest of Mansfield.

Kelley was driving west on Rt 150 and Wolf was east bound, according to the police report. Wolf’s car ran off the road onto the south shoulder and swerved back across the median strip, colliding with the car driven by Kelley, who was thrown out of the car, according to police.

The first person at the scene of the accident was David Sheffield, Del Ray Beach, Fla a truck driver. Sheffied reported that Kelley was still breathing when he found him, but that he died in a few minutes at the accident scene. A ccording to Dwight Mackey, Piatt County coroner, it had been raining and the pavement was damp. Mackey stated that no date has been set for the inquest.  Kelley was en route to Springfield to pick up his grandson, Buckley Sons, so the two could enjoy a holiday at the Lake of Ozarks in Missouri before the boy’s school year started. Mr. Kelley had owned and operated a garage in Mahomet for many years.  He was born June 21, 1894 the son of William and Mary Kelley. He married Hazel Mae Smith at Yeddo, Ind on Dec 10, 1911. She died July 12, 1957.

Survivors are two sons, Capt. Leonard Kelley, Hickam AF Base, Hawaii; and Virgil, Ft. Wayne, Ind; three daughters, Mrs. JL Sons and Mrs. Don Webber both of Springfield and Mrs. Bruck Sizer, Fisher; and 10 grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday at the Blair Funeral Home, Mahomet with Rev. DJ Unruh officiating.  Burial in Grandview Memorial Gardens.
